It goes without saying that conventional electrical geysers consume a tremendous amount of electricity.
In fact, household geysers account for forty to sixty percent of the total electricity used in a month.
For example, a 200 litre electric geyser uses on average 14kWh of electricity per day in a household of four people. Over a month, that’s 420kW. A cost of R840,00 per month for water heating alone.
That same family of four running a gas geyser and a gas stove reduced their average bill to R566,00 per month.
Another very good reason for converting to gas water heating, is that there is no need for a geyser or storage vessel. A South African custom that makes no sense is the placement of electrical geysers in the roof.
As modern day geysers have a typical lifespan of just a few years, they often leak or pop in the roof causing significant water damage. This does not happen with gas water heating.
Yet another good reason is that gas water heating provides a constant water temperature. Rinnai gas geysers can be set to an exact temperature. You will always have hot water and at the temperature that you want.
Solar water heating collectors work well but not on cloudy days. A few days of cloud and rain means that you will have no hot water without using electricity to supplement.
Gas water heating solves this problem.
